Storyline This play is based on the tragic true story of the first African-American to graduate from West Point. Assigned to Fort Davis, Texas in 1881, Lt. Henry Ossian Flipper was framed by white officers who accused him of embezzling government funds. Flipper was finally vindicated 95 years later - only a week after THE TRIAL OF THE MOKE ended it world premier run in 1976.
Storyline When compulsive gambler Little Joe Jackson (Eddie "Rochester"
Anderson) dies in a drunken fight, he awakens in purgatory, where he
learns that he will be sent back to Earth for six months to prove that
he deserves to be in heaven. He awakens, remembering nothing and
struggles to do right by his devout wife, Petunia
(Ethel Waters), while an angel known as the General (Kenneth Spencer)
and the devil's son, Lucifer Jr. (Rex Ingram), fight for his soul.
Storyline The versatile Melvin Van Peebles helmed this film version of his 1970s
Broadway musical about two devil's minions on a quest to crash a rowdy
party in Harlem being thrown by Miss Maybell (Esther Rolle). In the
process, the little demons earn their set of horns. Van Peebles also
penned the rousing rhythm-and-blues score, which includes the songs
"Saturday Night," "Ain't Love Grand" and "If You See a Devil, Smash
Him."
