Storyline
From Harlem to Hong Kong, they fear the name, the fame, and the fury of Black Cal Jefferson (James Inglehart, Savage, Death Force), the Champ! The Jeffersons' honeymoon night in Hong Kong is troubled by a number of people wishing to get a hold of a Buddha statuette that the husband offered her when window-shopping that day. When the going gets rough, it helps that Cal Jefferson is a top American boxer!

Groovy music and hip dialogue from the cult 1968 movie Putney Swope.
A revolutionary film at the time, Putney Swope is a brilliant, surreal take on 60s consumerism, race relations and artistic expression. It's many admirers include Jello Biafra, Paul Thomas Anderson (director of Boogie Nights), Stereolab's Duophonic label and the Coen Brothers (Fargo, Blood Simple etc). 

Written and directed by Robert Downey Sr., Putney Swope is a dark satire in which Putney Swope (Arnold Johnson), the only black man on the executive board of an advertising firm, is accidentally put in charge. Changing the name of the business to "Truth and Soul, Inc.", he replaces all but one of the white employees with his militant brothers and insists they no longer accept business from companies that produce war toys, alcohol or tobacco.
This CD and limited edition LP features snippets of the funny/hip dialogue, splendid bursts of funkiness, psychedelia, vaudeville, hiptalk and snazzy R&B.

This is NOT a 'normal' soundtrack - it's the audio track from sections of the movie and as such contains a selection of music and dialogue from the movie as opposed to straight-up tracks of music. We have been assured however that it is a legitimate release and NOT a bootleg.
Putney Swope was one of the first successful low-budget/underground films. Due to the disappearance of this movie's audio mastertapes, music and dialogue has been taken from existing mastertapes of the actual film. Extensive remastering has been done on the sound (which was originally recorded without the budget of a big Hollywood studio).

Storyline
This day-in-the-life cult comedy focuses on a group of friends working at Sully Boyar's Car Wash in Los Angeles. The team meets dozens of eccentric customers -- including a smooth-talking preacher (Richard Pryor), a wacky cab driver (George Carlin), and an ex-convict -- while cracking politically incorrect jokes to a constant soundtrack of disco and funk. Some of the workers find romance as the day moves along, but most are just happy to get through another shift.
