Just An Overnight Guest (1983, TV Movie)

Storyline
Richard Roundtree ("Shaft") and Rosalind Cash star in this touching story about a family that takes in an abused young girl on a temporary basis and, after a long ordeal, decides to make her a permanent part of their lives. An insightful story about the problems of abused children and also about African American family life, "Just an Overnight Guest" teaches children about sharing, compassion and responsibility. By example, it also encourages a positive attitude toward foster care and adoption, and spreads awareness of the problems and needs of homeless children.

Produced by Joanna Mallas, with Barbara Bryant as executive producer. Based on the book by Eleanora Tate.

Almos' A Man (1976)

Storyline
Although Dave (LeVar Burton, Roots, Dummy) and his family are poor sharecroppers in the Deep South in the 1930's, this 15 year-olds problem is shared by teenagers today: he stands with one foot in adulthood and the other in childhood. “Almos' A Man”, yet still treated like a child, he struggles for an identity. There's one thing, one symbol of manhood, Dave thinks, that could guarantee him instant respect: a gun.

Dave finds a way to buy a pistol and at last, is ready to pull the trigger for the first time, never again will they call him a boy…But, he trembles, the gun overpowers the boy's body and he loses control - his young life forever changed.  Also starring Madge Sinclair (Cornbread, Earl & Me) and Robert DoQui (Coffy).

Silent film that tells the story of a man who falsely accuses his Christian wife of adultery and abandons her and their child. She remains true to her Christian faith and brings up their child in a Christian home. He regrets his decision whilst he battles the devil's temptations. A spiritual battle of good and evil is played out.
