The story relates the troubles of "Permanent Williams," darktown cabaret owner, who is forced to hire his divorced wife and her new husbands as entertainers. His second wife doesn't relish the fact, so, in the words of Cohen, "troubles is somethin' Permanent ain't got nothing else exceptin'."
