Leonard Clay (Louis Gossett Jr.) is serving a long prison sentence in a Los Angeles prison. He finds out a recently transferred inmate Jared Williams (Blair Underwood) is his son. Jared is set to be paroled, but the parole committee is concerned that Jared will go back to his old ways. The committee paroles Leonard with Jared and they are to live in a halfway house together. While working as a mechanic, Leonard meets Yvonne (Rae Dawn Chong) and they begin a relationship, but Jared reunites with his old gang members that set off a chain of events that could cost him his life.

Storyline
