Edge of the City (1957)

Storyline
Axel Nordmann (John Cassavetes) takes a job as a dock laborer and is continually harassed by his tyrannical supervisor, Charles Malik (Jack Warden). Malik knows a secret from Axel's past, forcing the young worker to endure his boss's torment. Eventually, Axel befriends Tommy Tyler (Sidney Poitier), an African-American co-worker with a managerial job. Tommy teaches Axel to respect himself. However, Malik, a racial bigot, is threatened by Tommy's confidence, and the situation turns violent.

Storyline
In Kenya, Peter (Rock Hudson), the son of a white settler, is childhood friends with Kimani (Sidney Poitier). After Kimani's father is imprisoned for enforcing a controversial tribal tradition, Kimani realizes his place is among the Mau Mau, a group that is organizing a revolt. Mau Mau is lead by Njogu (Juano Hernadez), and the group attacks Peter's family leaving tragic results. Now British colonized Kenya struggles to maintain civility as the local militia group raids British military bases stealing guns for an uprising. Peter must find Kimani as he has learned that Kimani is now a general of Mau Mau and is leading the revolt against the British.
